Courtship

There is a weekly "love market" that the young hill people attend to find a mate. The courting ritual is very interesting and is hard to see now that they have learned to avoid the tourists. We got lucky

Come with me

Young boy pulls on young girls bag trying to convince her to leave with him

You buy from me?

The standard phrase used by all the hill tribe people

Beautiful eyes

Hill tribe lady with pretty eyes, big smile and heavy earrings

Handicrafts

Chris bought a couple of handmade blankets from these hilltribe ladies

Cat Box

Kitty keeping market goods secure

Basket Back Packs

Chris bought a handmade one from a hilltribe lady for $15 and walked around in with it in Sapa. This surprised the ladies and they had a big smile everytime she wore it.

Hilltribe Lady

This gives you a good idea of how these people look and dress

Black is beautiful

In this tribe, teeth are considered more beautiful when discolored (we think with beetle leaves)

Sweet Tooth?

These hilltribe folks love to chew on RAW sugar cane! We wonder if this old lady went a little overboard...
