Umbria is the region to the south of Tuscany and has recently emerged from Tuscany's shadow. The area has been referred to as the "green heart of Italy" and has a profusion of medieval hill towns that are wonderful to explore. During our few days in Umbria, we drove to the birth place of Saint Francis of Assisi and also visited many small charming hilltowns including Orvieto and Lubriano. We were also fortunate to be in Umbria as the sunflower fields were sprouting. What a magical sight! |
